Dedication to customers is at the heart of Rhea Wang’s work. She is a leading researcher at IFF Pharma Solutions who worked extensively in R&D and applications development prior to joining us in 2020. Her expertise lies in pharmaceutics, with a focus on the formulation and process optimization of drug delivery systems.

Rhea is a dynamo and pours her energy into troubleshooting complex formulation and process challenges such as osmotic pump delivery systems and multiple unit pellet systems.

“Throughout my career, I have focused on pharmaceutics, and I truly enjoy working on drug formulations development,” she shared. “Providing solutions to our customers’ challenges is most fulfilling to me.”

A recent research project of Rhea’s compared controlled release performance between carrageenan and several other hydrophilic polymers. This research aimed to determine which polymers excel in various pharmaceutical formulations and to provide more choices for formulators who are developing or will develop hydrophilic matrix. Next up for Rhea is initiating application projects for POLYOX™ polyethylene oxide, our water soluble, free-flowing highly swellable polymer. Her projects will explore its novel use for taste-masking and as a swallowing aid.

Rhea is not “all work and no play,” though. She loves spending time with her children and going for walks, and she’s pretty good with a Badminton racquet we hear! She also loves exploring her home country of China, and one of her favorite destinations is Xiaojangdong in Hunan Province. There, she says, the natural landscapes are breathtaking, but she’s also eager to visit Xinjiang to explore its unique cultural heritage and stunning geographical diversity.
