CONNECTING THE DOTS TO ADVANCE BIOPHARMA RESEARCH

Dr. Marizela Delic-Schlumbohm is a researcher and problem-solver even when she’s reading for enjoyment! Give her a good true crime novel and she’ll be engrossed trying to untangle the mystery and connect the dots. Naturally curious and always ready to learn new things, she brings both qualities to excel in her work at IFF Pharma Solutions.

After her formal education in chemistry, Marizela soon discovered a passion for biosciences and pursued a doctorate in biotechnology from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (Austria). She then made a career move away from academia – launching her career in biotechnology research and development. And we’re so fortunate that she did!

As an R&D Director at Pharma Solutions, Marizela leads a segment of the Polymer Synthesis & Modification R&D team based in Bomlitz, Germany. She is also the technical leader for Pharma Solutions’ NovaMatrix® R&D platform and was recognized by IFF as “Scientist of the Year” in 2023 for her contributions to NovaMatrix® and other Pharma Solutions’ biopharma endeavors.

She is one of our foremost subject matter experts on ultrapure alginates and frequently speaks at scientific conferences, symposia and webinars. In 2024, Marizela presented at the 15th Drug Delivery and Formulation Summit in Berlin and was a panelist for Cell & Gene Therapy Insights’ webinar “Advancing Cell Therapy: Innovations in Polymer-based Encapsulation and Delivery.”

“My goal is to bridge the gap between biopharma technology needs and Pharma Solutions’ R&D and manufacturing capabilities, fostering additional opportunities in the biopharma and biomedical fields,” shared Marizela.

She also has lofty travel goals. While she has already visited many cities in Europe, warmer climates are calling! She hopes to see Australia and New Zealand with her family one day. In the meantime, she’s content to focus on her areas of responsibility at Pharma Solutions and spend quality time with her “mini-me” daughter.
